SOUND INSTALLATION - Playing Games:

PROCESS: 

 
This sound installation features a loop of my voice after it’s been looped and mangled through various guitar effects pedals. The loops are being activated by the sounds of low frequencies, which are being picked up by the contact mics under the table (one under the Dominoes set and one under the Checkers set.  I first recorded my partner playing Dominoes, and then recorded us playing Checkers. Both tracks are layered on top of one another in the recording and in the video. 

I wanted to showcase a piece of my relearning how to play as an adult (we all forgot how to play). The playing is like conversation: scattered, frantic at times, and sentimental (not too much of that, though). The playing doesn’t always have to be perfectly in sync or rhymically quantized.

MATERIALS: 


- 2x contact mics 
 Ableton Live + a Transient Detector (mapped to a certain gain levels and low frequencies)
I used the microphones along with a transient detector in Ableton Live to trigger sounds. 
- 2 input audio interface 
- Checkers board game 
- Dominoes
